The Brazilian Pediatric Intensive Care Research Network -
The Brazilian Research Network in Pediatric Intensive Care (BRnet-PIC) was created on December 1, 2018 with the objective of being a collaborative network between pediatric intensive care units, aiming perform multicenter studies that allow to obtain a representative sample of several Brazilian health contexts, resulting in high impact scientific publications that may contribute to the improvement of care.

Dra. Daniela Carla de Souza
Pediatrician and pediatric intensivist with a Master’s and PhD in Health Sciences (Pediatrics) from the University of São Paulo (USP). Her clinical, teaching, and research activities are focused on Pediatric Intensive Care, with particular expertise in pediatric sepsis, epidemiology, quality improvement, and the implementation of strategies to improve the care of critically ill children.
She is a pediatric intensivist at the Pediatric Intensive Care Units of the University Hospital of the University of São Paulo (USP) and Hospital Sírio-Libanês. She also teaches undergraduate medical students at the Albert Einstein Israelite School of Health Sciences and is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Health Sciences at Hospital Sírio-Libanês. She served as President of the Latin American Sepsis Institute (ILAS) from 2022 to 2026.
Her work is particularly focused on translating scientific knowledge into clinical practice to improve the care and outcomes of critically ill children, while strengthening collaborative research and the education and training of healthcare professionals in Brazil and Latin America.
Dr. José Colleti Junior
Graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto at the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1992. Completed Medical Residency in Pediatrics at the Clinical Hospital of FMRP (USP 1995). Holds a Specialist title in Pediatric Intensive Care certified by the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB) and the Brazilian Association of Intensive Medicine (AMIB) in 1996. Currently serves as the Coordinator of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (UTIP) at Hospital da Luz Vila Mariana and works as a medical assistant at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein.
Dr. Cristian Tonial
Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre - UFCSPA (2007). Completed a Medical Residency in Pediatrics at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre - UFRGS (2011). Completed a Medical Residency in Pediatric Intensive Care at PUCRS (2013). Holds a Master's and a PhD in Pediatrics and Child Health from PUCRS. Currently works as a shift doctor in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (UTIP) at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. Serves as a scientific reviewer for the Brazilian Journal of Intensive Care (RBTI), the Jornal de Pediatria (JPED), and the Journal of Nutrition.

Dr. Arnaldo Prata
He graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1979 and holds a Master’s degree in Pediatrics (1987) and a PhD in Clinical Medicine, with a focus on Child and Adolescent Health (2005), from the UFRJ School of Medicine. He is a specialist in Pediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care Medicine and a retired Associate Professor at the UFRJ School of Medicine.
He currently serves as Coordinator of Pediatric Research at the D’Or Institute for Research and Education (IDOR) and as Coordinator of IDOR’s Stricto Sensu Graduate Programs.
Dra. Roberta Esteves Vieira de Castro
Pediatric intensivist with a Master’s degree in Maternal and Child Health from Fluminense Federal University (UFF) and a PhD in Medicine from Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ). She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UERJ and has postgraduate training in Neurocritical Care from the D’Or Institute for Research and Education (IDOR) and in Pain Medicine from Albert Einstein. She is a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in Medical Sciences at UERJ (PGCM/UERJ).
She is the Coordinator of the Latin American Delirium Special Interest Group and a member of the MiniMINDS group of the American Delirium Society.
Dr. Orlei Ribeiro de Araujo
PhD in Sciences from the Federal University of São Paulo. Graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Uberlândia (MG), with a medical residency in Pediatrics from USP-Ribeirão Preto, and specialization and Master's in Pediatric Infectology from the Federal University of São Paulo. Post-graduate lato sensu in Applied Statistics. Holds titles of Specialist in Pediatrics from the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics and in Pediatric Intensive Care from AMIB. Former coordinator of the neonatal and pediatric ICUs at Santa Marina Hospital, São Paulo. He has served as an investigator and co-investigator in several phase 2 and 3 clinical research projects with vaccines such as Biken varicella, hepatitis A, quadruple vaccine, and nasal influenza virus vaccine. Currently, he is the coordinator of the Pediatric Unit at Cruz Azul Hospital and an attending physician in the Oncology ICU at GRAACC/Pediatric Oncology Institute/UNIFESP.
